Ford Teams Up with Police Departments for a Heat-Based Strategy to Fight COVID-19
Ford has developed a heat-based software solution that may help fight the spread of the coronavirus. Teaming up with Ohio State University and police forces, the new system involves using extreme heat to bake the interior cabins of police vehicles for 15-minute periods, lowering the viral concentration inside the vehicles by over 99%. The goal is for police departments nationwide to utilize this system in the fight against coronavirus. At Tr-Star Ford Kittanning, we are here to provide any updates we can, and we encourage our clients from Apollo to Punxsutawney to visit our website for more information!
How Does it Work?
In late March, Ford began work on its heat-based solution. The software-based approach is simple, using extreme heat to move the interior temperature of police vehicles to 133 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes at a time to neutralize the coronavirus. Heating the interior of police vehicles results in a full neutralization, with the ability to spread to hard-to-reach places and cover the entirety of police vehicles' passenger areas. Ohio State University partnered with Ford to determine the necessary temperature to fight against viral concentration effectively.
